When Lyme refuses to respond to treatment, many respected Lyme-literate physicians believe that the problem lies in the complex synergies caused by co-infections.
Bartonella (Cat Scratch Fever) and Babesia are the
co-infections we most often hear about – partly because of the extreme difficulty in getting rid of them, partly due to the frightening number of undocumented species that are being discovered, and most often because of the frequency of these two co-infections being discovered as a complexity of the overall disease (diagnosis, symptoms and treatment.)
A co-infection that is not as popular, or well known, but certainly every bit as pervasive, is the organism, “Mycoplasma.” Mycoplasma is very often
carried by ticks but on its own, not life threatening and quite easily cured if it is diagnosed. However, like most of the Lyme co-infections, doctors are just not trained to look for these diseases and over time they can cause quite a bit of damage, especially if they are working in league with Borellia burgdoferi (Lyme).
