How to Get Rid of Candida

How to Get Rid of Candida

Candida is a very unpleasant side effect from taking antibiotics, which for many people with chronic Lyme, can be a serious complication.  For others Candida may be a minor irritation that is just one more symptom of a weakened immune system and/or bad health.

Other factors that contribute to yeast overgrowth is hormone imbalances, blood pH acidity, body temperature, food allergies, and even emotional/stress issues.

Yeast occurs in everyones body to some degree, but when there is an overgrowth due to imbalances of good and bad bacteria in the body, it can cause candida, an infection that occurs in the vaginal area of women frequently, and/or in the intestines or even the mouth and throat.

It can also infect babies due to long exposure to wet diapers or swimmers who sit in wet bathing suits on a regular basis.  But for chronic Lyme sufferers it is usually due to an imbalance caused by antibiotics which kill the good bacteria that would normally feed off the yeast, a weak immune system or a nutritional imbalance.

It normally resides in the intestinal tract, mouth, throat and genitals, however it can burrow holes in the intestinal tract, enter the blood stream and then make it’s way into any organ of the body. To make matters worse it emits over 70 different toxins into the body. Some people may even become allergic to the yeast itself.

Once this hardy organism proliferates in the body, it wrecks havoc in many ways and is the initiator of many common maladies, conditions, syndromes and illnesses in our population.

Some of the most frequent Candida symptoms are:

  • abdominal gas and bloating
  • headaches
  • migraines
  • excessive fatigue
  • cravings for alcohol
  • cravings for sweets
  • anxiety
  • vaginitis
  • rectal itching
  • inability to think clearly or concentrate
  • hyperactivity
  • mood swings
  • diarrhea
  • constipation
  • hyperactivity
  • itching
  • acne
  • eczema
  • depression
  • sinus inflammation
  • PMS
  • dizziness
  • poor memory
  • persistent cough
  • earaches
  • low sex drive
  • muscle weakness
  • irritability
  • learning difficulties
  • sensitivity to fragrances and/or other chemicals
  • cognitive impairment
  • athlete’s foot
  • sore throat
  • indigestion
  • acid reflux
  • chronic pain

The brain is the organ that is most frequently affected by Candida Symptoms, but it also has profound negative effects on these systems:

  • digestive
  • nervous
  • cardiovascular
  • respiratory
  • reproductive
  • urinary
  • endocrine
  • lymphatic
  • musculoskeletal

Candida symptoms can vary from one person to another and often move back and forth between systems within the same individual.  One day you may experience symptoms in the musculoskeletal system and the next day it could be the digestive system ,etc.

include oxygen based products like food grade hydrogen peroxide, caprylic acid, oregano oil, garlic, taheebo tea, grapefruit seed extract and colloidal silver.

Getting rid of candida can be very tricky and difficult if you don’t stay on a consistent regimen.  Sugar is what feeds yeast, so eliminating sugar in all of its simple forms like candy, desserts, alcohol and flours.

Also reducing your serving sizes to only one cup a day of the more complex carbohydrates such as grains, beans, fruit, bread, pasta, and potatoes will prevent the Candida from growing and eventually cause it to die. I would recommend eliminating all fermented foods as well.  However, using diet alone could take three to six months before the Candida is back under control.

Doctors often prescribe nystatin Diflucan or Nizoralfor bad cases of candida and encourage regular supplementation of natural probiotics such as yogurt.

Restoring systemic balance of the intestinal and body flora is usually essential to long-term success in resolving these issues. The balance in the vaginal tissues can be a more difficult task, and one that should utilize ongoing application for success (see below).

Here are some other home remedies for fighting candida:

Add 3 tablespoons raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar to 2 quarts warm purified (distilled water or filtered water that has been boiled and cooled to “warm”). Apple cider vinegar naturally has the same acidity as a healthy vagina. Use this cleansing douche for a natural remedy for vaginal yeast infections. You can use this mixture twice a day when symptoms are most severe. As symptoms begin to clear up, reduce to once a day for a couple more days. Discontinue as soon as you are symptom free.

Other douches to try: (Recipes at

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Garlic
  • Cinnamon Oil
  • Yogurt
  • Herbs
  • Betadine

A sitz bath:

Fill a bathtub with just enough warm, not hot, water to create a sitz bath (enough water to cover your groin and just up to your belly). Add 2 cups of raw apple cider vinegar and sit in the bath with your knees folded toward your body (not stretched out flat). You can stay in this bath mixture for 15 minutes. Gently pat dry and make sure you are very dry before putting any clothes on. Wear only cotton underpants, preferably washed in natural unscented detergent.  Epson Salt is also helpful.

Apple cider vinegar drink:

Add 1-2 teaspoons raw apple cider vinegar to a small glass of water (6 oz. or so). Add stevia to taste and sip slowly before a meal. This may create unpleasant die off reactions (dizziness, nausea, foggy feelings, super low energy) due to the apple cider vinegar actually killing yeast in the intestines. Drink plenty of pure water to help flush the dead yeast out. You can also do an epsom salt bath (2 cups epsom salts to a tub of warm water) which will not only help alleviate die off symptoms, it can also help kill the yeast infection!

According to you can take the following self test, and/or consider the list of symptoms they have categorized:

How To Tell If You Have Candida  –  The Spit Test.: In the evening, put a clear glass of water by your bed. First thing in the morning, briefly rinse your mouth, swallow, then gather some saliva in your mouth and spit into the glass of water (be sure to spit out saliva, not mucus). Keep an eye on the water for half an hour — especially the first few minutes. If you have candida overgrowth, you will see one or more of the following:

1. Strings (legs) hanging down from the saliva.
2. Heavy-looking saliva at the bottom of the glass.
3. Cloudy specks suspended in the water.

If, within three minutes after spitting into the water, you see “strings” hanging down, cloudy specks showing up in the water, or “debris” sinking to the bottom, you most likely have extensive overgrowth, which will require more candida-fighting action on your part.

I have had my share of troubles with candida and find Nystatin to be a fast relief of symptoms but not necessarily a cure.  Even after going off antibiotics I have struggled with candida at different times in spite of the probiotics I use regularly.

Finally, between daily douching, brushing my teeth and mouth with Uncle Tom’s extra whitening toothpaste, gargling and swishing the water solution used for my Lyme/Biofilm protocol (Banderol, Enula and Samento), 32 ounces of water mixed with Green Vibrance which has organic freeze dried greens with probiotics added ( it also has spirulina, chlorella, lecithin, enzymes, minerals, vitamin C from natural sources, polyphenols, phyto-minerals, ginger root powder, cayenne pepper powder, fiber and much, much more), and  Propax NT (high energy multi-vitamin with essential omega oils and the amazing anti-viral NT-factor).

The benefits from the last two items (Propax and Green Vibrance) that have been very obvious to me is the increased energy which immediately falls away when I run out of the product for any length of time.

It can be very confusing to look at the list of symptoms caused by candida and those caused by Lyme when you see that so many are the same.  You can see why it must be confusing for doctors to distinguish between the many different ailments we humans can suffer from.  Luckily candida has such an easy test to identify the culprit and a straight forward method of getting rid of it.

If you follow these methods for clearing it up and after 6 months pass you are still suffering, you may want to consider the possibility that your body is fighting something else.  Make sure you visit a trusted medical doctor on a regular basis if you aren’t enjoying energy and good health.

My husband and I have been struggling with candida for years and we have tried everything. We are currently taking the Byron White A-FNG as well as a couple of his Detox formulas and they are helping better than anything has yet. We learned about them from his lecture he has posted on his blog. I put his website address here above. You might want to investigate it. He also talks about how illness needs to be “unraveled” which means there are layers to it. It isn’t just that you have candida. For example: We lived in a house with mold which got it started for me, husband took a bunch of antibiotics after an accident. That lowered the immune system. We then got parasites which we are fighting also with Byron’s A-P formula. Heavy metals are also an issue. So along with changing our diets (no sugar, wheat, or fish and lots of green smoothies with parsley and cilantro – to absorb metals) and the BW formulas we are doing much better. We also moved to a mold free house. Our allergies and asthma and other issues are clearing up as we unravel this thing. Highly recommend learning about this concept.

Thanks for your comment! I hope you also read my blog post entirely devoted to Byron White treatments. Scott Forsgren, who also includes Byron White formulas into his treatment has written a great article on candida: which I have sent to my internal medicine doc to get prescription strength help for my candida.

According to Dr. Warren Levin, “…Nystatin is generally considered to be a good option for treating Candida infections in the digestive tract. The major advantage of using Nystatin is the low risk of serious systemic side effects, as the drug is not systemically absorbed. Unfortunately, this characteristic of Nystatin is also its downside. It can act as a lawnmower to remove the dandelions, though it cannot get to the root system and, as a result, may not be an effective approach in the treatment of CRC after it has passed the initial stages. Once the yeast has penetrated the intestinal wall, Nystatin may be able to help clear out the intestines, but it leaves the roots behind and the yeast will simply reemerge.”

“Until about twenty years ago, there were few other options for the treatment of Candida. Fortunately, today, there are several oral medications that are absorbed and work their way through the blood to attack the root system and more successfully address entrenched chronic fungal infection Ketaconazole (Nizoral), Fluconazole (Diflucan), Itraconazole (Sporanox) and more recently Voriconazole (VFend) are some of the
more common agents that can help to address CRC at a deeper level.

      Hope this helps!

In order to help resolve the candida issue, we need to focus on parasite first, bacteria overgrowth second and then focusing on Candida.
If a person has a chronic issue with candida, most likely they have parasite and bacteria overgrowth is present. They must be address first if you
want to get rid of candida.
    hope this help!

also we should think about Lectin toxicity! it is called the invisible illness and mimics parasites/bacteria and candida infections.

  4. Gus Nesser says:

A yeast infection causes itching or soreness in the vagina and sometimes causes pain or burning when you urinate or have sex. Some women also have a thick, clumpy, white discharge that has no odor and looks a little like cottage cheese…

Count on it if you are on antibiotics BUT my doctor insists NOT to douche…medical cream and a moisturising prebiotic during sex (Luvena makes the one she recommended which is available at most pharmacies.
