Cowden Protocol

Cowden Protocol

Dr. Horowitz, one of the foremost Lyme literate MDs in America refers most of his chronically ill patients to Dr. Cowden’s  (shown above) protocol if they fail their antibiotic treatment or are unable or unwilling to take antibiotics.

So many have had complete success with the protocol (Dr. Horowitz says 70% of his patients recover who go on Dr. Cowden’s protocol), but let’s be honest – it isn’t an easy protocol, you must be prepared to work hard to keep track of the time due to some that must be taken alone, other’s with food and ramping up, dosing (a term used to indicate going on and off certain products for a time) and the sheer volume of products.

Price-wise, it is a great value over the long haul having spent over 100K on numerous protocols, diagnostic tests, supplements, and products to alleviate symptoms etc… over the many years I was sick – especially during the 7 – 8 years I was bedridden.

The protocol is described here and the instructions for the entire Cowden protocol for Lyme disease is here. Print it out and follow each instruction exactly.  Following are the supplies you will need for each month.  Forrest Health sells everything you need (please use these links as I get a small commission for any sales I send.  Thank you for you loving support!)

I am going to be reading this blog. Hopefully it’s light I need to see while battling Lyme, severe depression and anxiety. One week on the cowden protocol.
    Praying this works

    Hello,
Lymie here under abx, but hoping to add another tx plan. Can this protocol be done along w abx???

  3. Lynn McAuley says:

Can this protocol be used in conjunction with antibiotics? I was just prescribed doxycycline twice a day for 30 days because I tested extremely positive again (11 out of 13 bands) and the symptoms are back.

    • Jenna Seaver says:

Absolutely Lynn! And if you are only doing 30 days of Doxy I highly recommend based on my own experience (I am not a licensed medical practitioner) that you do both and stay on the Cowden protocol for a minimum of a year. Start with the parasite treatment for 8 weeks 5 days on and 2 days off (it is OK to do while on abx too) and adding Nutramedix Serrapeptase on empty stomach (best used with abx or Cowden protocol) to get rid of biofilms. You will find that every 3 to 5 weeks depending on the species of Borrelia and how heavy your bacteria load, that you will have a worsening of symptoms that will vary according on the amount of endotoxins released into your body by the bacteria dying.

Not enough antibiotics, as you are learning, is worse than too much because it kills the weak bacteria leaving the strong to multiply. Please read the info on Borrelia on my website to better understand the complexity of the infection you have. The good news is you will get better fast if you treat it correctly.

      Be well,

      Jenna

  4. Kitt says:

Hi Jenna, did the Cowden Protocol make you much better? Have you done it? I just started . . . I was on ABX for 5 years with Dr. J (Charlotte now D.C.) and got much better but not all better. I hope this works. For all you newbie Lymies – chin up – you WILL improve and get your life back if you stick with it. The beginning few years are very hard. I remember those dark days. I am now pretty darn functional and I thought that would never happen : )

    • Jenna Seaver says:

Hi Kitt – I tried so may types of abx and alternative therapies but didn’t get anywhere until I started on 2 grams of penicillin/day and later added another abx recommended by John Hopkins for “Persister Borrelia bacteria” – of course I am also on biofilm and parasite protocols along with other supplements, diet, exercise and dedicated sleep. I am still on other prescription meds but now that I am out of New England and out of the direct line of stress from my divorce and the incredible concentration of Borrelia laden ticks up north I am going to tackle Dr. Cowden’s new parasite program he gave me personally – the general protocol was not strong enough for me and I know other’s who have not had success for similar reasons. Others recover completely on Cowden’s regular protocol and I am glad you are feeling better! Each day at a time, right?

  5. stefanie says:

How many months is there for this treatment. I seen some that go to 9 months. Is there a difference??

    • Jenna Seaver says:

      Hi Stephani

Yes, some go for 2 years with no relief or partial relief and others are cured after 8 or 9 months. When I spoke to him, he really stressed dealing with parasites and biofilms, then adding Lyme and other bacteria killing protocols and finally viruses and molds. We are all so unique!

  6. Stacey says:

I have used the CCP and I think it works great. I have gone on/off as needed (usually 1 x per year) over the past 6 years since my Lyme diagnosis. I was wondering if anyone has a good daily treatment using the herbals from the Cowden protocol? I am trying to avoid having to do the “whole” treatment each year and was curious if perhaps daily Samento worked or something like that?

    • Jenna Seaver says:

I would love to post your full experience for other readers – it seems to vary greatly from person to person. According to Eva Sapi in her article in the Townsend Letter, just using Banderol and Samento would keep you healthy although I would suggest staying on Enula and Diatomaceous Earth 5 days on 2 days off (plus during full moon) all year, every year.

      Best wishes,
      Jenna

  7. Maya says:

I’m putting you on the spot… Do you know how the Cowden protocol compares in results to other Lyme protocols including Dr. Klinghart’s? Also, is there probiotic gut support with this protocol, and if not, is there a consensus of what to take to address such? Also, does the protocol, to your knowledge successfully address heavy metals?
Thanks for your time and feedback.
