When we suffer great loss from Lyme disease it further isolates us from people we perceive to live fulfilled lives. Usually those thoughts couldn’t be further from the truth.
Take Avril Lavigne, for instance.
The beautiful and successful singer appears to have it all: financial wealth, professional success and fairy tale romance with singer/songwriter Chad Kroeger (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20751560,00.html) who she married in 2013.
Tragedy struck last year when she became bedridden with a mystery ailment that completely incapacitated her. Now that she is back on her feet she shares encouragement to others who suffer with Lyme disease.
“There is hope. Lyme disease does exist, and you can get better,” she said.
In a new interview with Good Morning America, the 30-year-old singer broke down in tears while recalling her battle just to get a proper diagnosis. Avril was bedridden for five months, and has previously said that she thought she “was dying” because of symptoms including not being able to eat, and not being able to talk or move.
“I was in Los Angeles, literally, like the worst time in my life and I was seeing, like, every specialist and literally, the top doctors, and they were so stupid, and they would pull up their computer and be like, “chronic fatigue syndrome,” or “Why don’t you try to get out of bed Avril, and just play the piano? Are you depressed?'” Avril says in tears. “This is what they do to a lot of people who have Lyme disease. They don’t have an answer for them so they tell them, like, ‘You’re crazy.”
Thankfully, the singer says she is now seeing progress in her treatment, which struck her last year while she was on tour. Her treatment regimen has included multiple antibiotics and ample rest.
“I’m about halfway through my treatment,” the Canadian singer said in an interview with ABC News’ Jesse Palmer. (To read the full story, visit http://www.abcnews.com)
